I'm gonna quit facebook. Right after I let everybody know.

I am gonna quit Facebook.
Why?  You may ask.
Is it not obvious at this point.

Quite honestly, the only reasons I have kept it up to this point are the following.

#1. Who do I know that has died? Do I need to go to a funeral?
Celebrity death every other day by various means: It is sad. It is tragic. It does not affect my day to day life.
People I do know, but have not kept in contact with. I like to pay my last respects and I do kick myself for not making more of an effort in keeping in contact. But it is difficult to do so when you are a hermit who is working or studying most of the time. Facebook does reach a wider audience. So, in the event of an untimely passing, (As uncouth as it may be) Information is disseminated quickly via this medium.

#2. To keep up with friends birthdays.
Yeah, I am a bad friend. I need facebook to tell me it's your birthday (except for a few select people.) If you are keeping facebook for this same reason, you are a bad friend too. Don't be ashamed! I am not mad at you for not remembering my birthday. It's life. You can't remember everything. At least admit it to yourself, and make an effort to remember the important people in your life, and do more than post “Happy Birthday” on their timeline. Here is an idea, Text them, Call them, Drop by for a visit.

#3. Oh, and the random shared animal video (mostly cats.)
I Love cat videos, and Puppy rescue videos, along with Platypus, Wombat and David Beckham videos.

Are these three reasons enough for me to continue to log on everyday and waste my life away when I could be doing something so much more important than scrolling?

Reasons I am quitting the facebook habit.

#1. I like to keep my life private. I don't post a lot of personal information. As a matter of fact, if you look at my profile screen most of the about me information is some derivative of “None-Ya-business”.
This was not filled out for the sake of “Stalkers”. I am pretty sure I don't have any. I don't think I am that special.
The “None-Ya-Business” is for advertisers who use facebook to fit me into a little demographic so they can attempt to sell me stuff. My profile pic consists of my work boots with a Dead toe tag on it. My face is not in it. Sure I have posted my face in the past (365 days of the Selfie), and other random/important life events. I have my privacy settings on lock. Recently Facebook encountered a bug that made a lot of Private accounts public.... I am not cool with that. I checked my settings. I was not affected. HOWEVER. It happened once, I won't give them an opportunity for it to happen again.

#2. The amount of Data that Facebook collects is astounding. Information that you may not think is important, is to somebody willing to pay for it. There are youtube videos that will instruct you on how to dive into the rabbit hole of all the Data that FB collects on you. Enter at your own risk. It is enough to make you vomit.
Also do you remember when FB added the “Did you know?' question to your profile?
You answer the question and it posts to your wall. It also gives facebook more information about you.

Did you know that facebook is looking for more ways to make money from selling your data?
That is really what that little question box should be titled.

#3. Propaganda/Politics.
I HATE IT!!! I ABHORE IT!!! I DESPISE IT!!!
a. People do not fact check. Posts are made by people with an opinion and it is shared by those who agree. Opinions are not facts. Memes are not facts. Ignorance comes in many forms. Before you share, Check to see if it is true. SNOPES.COM
b. The presidential election cycle is every 4 years. Why am I constantly seeing political BS.
Divisiveness keeps the masses distracted. If one is too busy arguing with another about something inanely stupid and otherwise pointless, then those individuals are not paying attention to the puppet master. How about taking a peek behind the curtain.
c. No one knows what the real issues are because everyone is still fighting about Abortion and gun control/2nd amendment. Has anyone considered that the 2016 election was actually tampered with? Has anyone considered that facebook sold data to Cambridge Analytica so that they could “Market” to you and essentially manipulate you into voting the way they wanted you to based off the information you gave facebook that you thought was unimportant? Yes this actually happened.

Seriously, Am I the only one in the crowd who sees that the emperor has no clothes?

I will miss staying connected with a lot of people that I no longer get to see on a regular basis. But if I am absolutely needed, just send up the bat signal. Batman knows where to find me.
